[Day 1, Midmorning, Asako Qi's] Reporting In

Well, this place seems nice!

Yukari was used to much nicer, of course, but she also had a handle on where she'd landed, and figured it was a miracle they weren't sleeping in shallow pits scraped out of the sand.

Maybe I can.. no, no, no big ideas, Yukari, not until you hash out what you're doing here. Miya-sama and Moto-sama have to have hoped for a bushi or a proper shugenja instead...

She scratched at the door to Asako Qi's quarters.

There was a dramatic sigh from inside of the room.

"Come in!" She called out from inside her room. Qi was sitting in front of a small make-up box looking into a polished piece of bronze as she redid her eyeliner, because she just had to look her best even when out here.

Yukari entered, bowed, and then looked up with interest.

"Good morning, Asako-sama. This one is Shiba Yukari, of the Tejina, newly landed from home. I felt it appropriate to present myself, to see if there is any way I can be of service."

She set down her brush before bowing to the Shiba. Then she picked up the brush again and set about finishing her make-up. "The Tejina?" She muttered. "Hmph. How do you believe you shall be of service here? What is it that you wish to do on this island?"

"This one is a bit unclear on why she has been sent here."

Yukari sighed.

"I am no bushi, no explorer. When I am not crafting illusions, I am focused on the arts- ikebana, gardening, and music, in particular. Given the... condition of the settlement here, perhaps I might best be of service if I strive to create a few... civilized places. Something to remind those of us stationed here of home. I'd need to work with local materials, but..."

She paused. Nodded to the Asako's makeup case.

"Asako-sama does not need this one to tell her that this is a difficult place to feel like a samurai. This one wishes to alleviate that as best she is able."

[Koumori]

Brush still in hand, though the process was nearly done at this time, she looked over towards Yukari and motioned for her to sit.

"Perhaps that is your purpose here, like you said, to create something that will make this place feel more like a proper town in Rokugani rather than some backwater area with a few paper buildings and then trees. We are better than that and are the pinnacle of culture for the entire world. To be here in this sorry state is a far cry from what we should be." She nodded as if her words were to be taken as gospel. "A garden would be lovely out here, if one could control all the bugs and snakes trying to get into it... But music and dance could be something, too. A gift for the spirits of the island. Like a small festival in order to show our thanks for them not attacking us in any way yet."

"I think that would be... I won't say easy, but something I could see to. Perhaps we could dedicate a shrine to the local kami? I didn't... well. See any signs of any such thing when i arrived."

[Koumori]

"Nothing is easy on this island, and I do wish I could love it, but there's just so many bugs... But, I'm certain that you can handle it, Shiba-san." She nodded as she dropped her work onto the other Phoenix. "Both would be delightful. The creation of the shrine and the festival to thank the spirits."

[Shiba Yukari]

"I'll do what I can! May I mention you as supporting the projects, Asako-sama?"

[Koumori]

"Yes. We Phoenix need to work together, after all and these are things that need to be done. The shrine, obviously, more important than the festival."

"As you say, Asako-sama. I'm not carpenter, but perhaps you could suggest a suitable person to consult on the matter?"

[Koumori]

"Only one I could think of here that would be talented with that is Kaiu Kyo-san. I know she's a blacksmith, but I'm certain that she'll be able to do something. If not, she might know someone else."

[Shiba Yukari]

"Thank you, Asako-sama. I will begin there."

[Koumori]

She bowed. "May the Fortunes guide your path."

Yukari returned the bow.

"This one should not take up any more of your valuable time than is required, Asako-sama. Is there anything further?"

[Koumori]

"I do not believe there is. It has been a pleasure getting to meet you, Shiba-san."

[Shiba Yukari]

"The pleasure has been mine, Asako-sama."

She appeared to mean it, and smiled as she bowed.

"Carry the Fortunes."
